“To be part of a generation that won’t be silent, that refuses to be silent, I’m so proud.”

Some of the greatest talent in music today gathered for a benefit concert of Charlottesville over the weekend, following the protest and counter-protest that turned deadly last month. Among the performances that were livestreamed across Tumblr and Oath were sets by Pharrell Williams, the Dave Matthews Band, Justin Timberlake, and Ariana Grande.

Grande had uplifting words for the audience before she performed. "Thank you guys so much for having me tonight," she began. "I just wanted to thank you guys for coming together, and I just wanted to say really quickly how proud I am to be part of a generation that is so passionate about creating a change and for making things better," she said. "To be a part of a generation that won't be silent, that refuses to be silent, I'm so proud. So thank you, I love you, keep using your voices and making this a safer place for each other. Let's celebrate each other and our differences, and let's have a good ass time tonight--let's go."

Donations from the Concert for Charlottesville Fund went straight to the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, which works "with local residents, non-profits, as well as public and private organizations to facilitate philanthropy and improve the quality of life in our area." Victims of the events, families, first responders, and social justice organizations will benefit from the money raised. Watch Grande's short speech, below.
