48 LGBTQ+ stars who celebrated Zohran Mamdani's NYC win
"We did it, Zoh!"
Zohran Mamdani's victory speech was — much like his entire campaign to become mayor of New York City — unusual and effective. More often than not, candidates who win political races deliver reconciliatory speeches about opponents and presumed obstacles to follow. But that's not what Mamdani did. Knowing the difficult road ahead of him, Mamdani delivered a spicier speech that reflected on his campaign, celebrated New York City, and challenged his political opponents to "turn the volume up" — including President Donald Trump.
Per Bloomberg, Mamdani has just been elected the 111th mayor of New York City after receiving 50.4 percent of the votes. As a result, he'll become the youngest person (at age 34) to hold the office of NYC mayor in a century, and will be New York's "first Muslim mayor and first person of South Asian descent to lead the city."
Ahead, check out how several LGBTQ+ celebrities are reacting to Zohran's Mamdani's historic victory to become the next mayor of New York City.

Sharok
Content creator and gay adult film star Sharok wrote a very personal statement in reaction to Mamdani's win:
"I had just celebrated my birthday in NYC with my family. I was just 17 years and 16 days old when I flew back to LA for high school. Then 9/11 happened. Suddenly, everything changed overnight.
My mom kept me home from school, not because she was scared of terrorists, but because she was scared of what people might do to me. People who looked like us were being assaulted in the streets, and suddenly, people who looked like me were the enemy. I heard it all: towel head, camel jockey, sand n****r, terrorist. Even my friends made those jokes, and I’d laugh or beat them to the punchline just to break the awkward silence.
My dad took 'Persian' off his restaurant sign, changed it to 'Mediterranean,' and put up an American flag. He even added a [U.S. flag emoji] bumper sticker to his truck.
Both are still there today.
Everyone told me to shave my beard, and they still do. Even when I was getting my visa for France, they told me to shave it, because to them I might look like a terrorist. Everyone from our part of the world got thrown into the same category. Arabs, Iranians, South Asians, North Africans, etc. We were once again the enemies. Didn't matter who you were, because to them, we all looked the same.
The way Zohran spoke about those early days brought back a flood of memories and the islamophobia we experienced and still so to this day. Just for being 'Muslim passing' or bearded or for wearing a hijab.
Now look :) in 2025, seeing someone like Zohran Mamdani win the mayoral race in New York City means something different. He represents families like mine and millions of others across [U.S. flag emoji]. AND HE'S AN ALLY TO US QUEERS [pride flag emoji; trans pride flag emoji].
He makes me proud and hopeful for the future, and I just hope he doesn't disappoint us. Congratulations to Zohran and Rama Duwaji Mamdani and to NYC [heart emoji]."
