The New York City Marathon got a lot gayer this month when 37-year-old Clarisa Alayeto of The Bronx, New York, dropped down on one knee and proposed to her girlfriend, who was standing at the 20 mile mark supporting her, the New York Post reports. She said "Yes," of course.
As Alayeto approached the 20-mile mark at 4:30 on November 3rd during the race, her girlfriend Mariely Del Valle, was standing there cheering Alayeto on with other friends and family. That's when Del Valle noticed that someone was playing "Para Siempre" by Kany Garcia over speakers. That happens the couple's favorite song.
"When I heard the song on the radio I though, 'that's weird' and [then] I saw her on her knees and was just shocked," Del Valle told The Post.
Surrounded by supportive friends, Alayeto dropped to one knee as Del Valle, and several people around them, started to cry.
To make it all even more perfect than it already is, Alayeto had been planning the proposal for weeks, and almost had the surprise ruined the night before. "Last night I asked her 'you're not going to propose tomorrow are you?' And she said 'of course not! That's too much for me.'" A little white lie never hurt anybody!
Ayaleto completed the marathon in just under nine hours. Congratulations on the race, and on the proposal!
