"I’m protecting everybody. I want to protect our country.”
This week, The New York Times released a leaked memo from the Department of Health and Human Services that would require people to legally identify with the gender that matches the genitalia they were born with. It sparked immediate outrage among trans, GNC people, and their supporters, with rallies taking place in New York, Los Angeles, and Washington DC.

According to PinkNews, Donald Trump has addressed the memo. While boarding Marine One on Monday, he was asked if he was giving up on promises made to trans people during the election.
"We're looking at it. We have a lot of different concepts right now," he said. "They have a lot of different things happening with respect to transgender right now. You know that as well as I do, and we're looking at it very seriously."
When asked if he would protect LGBTQ people, he responded: "You know what I'm doing? I'm protecting everybody. I want to protect our country."
