Premiere: MisterWives Takes Aim at Trump in Apocalyptic 'Oh Love' Video

"Oh love, where did you go?"

When Donald Trump was elected one year ago, MisterWives, like so many others, responded with rage. The New York pop group, who recently released their sophomore album Connect The Dots, channeled this fury into a riotous new song, "Oh Love," which sees them reflecting on Trump's nightmarish victory through existential, admittedly pessimistic lyrics.

"The day after the election, we woke with swollen eyes filled with deep despair and heavy hearts," lead singer Mandy Lee says. "The moment of feeling hopeless was met and outmatched with a burning need to step further into our work and not be silenced by fear. We must always rise up in the face of appalling hatred, oppression and bigotry with an outpour of compassion, equality, and love... even when love feels lost."

In the track, Lee questions repeatedly, "Oh love, where did you go?" before saying she needs "hope that these sticks and stones won't break my bones." Sonically, "Oh Love" is a political war cry with menacing drums and ominous chants that build into grinding guitars and Lee's searing vocal performance. "Crowned the devil a winner," she sings, calling today's administration "scarier than any bad dream."

The accompanying music video depicts an apocalyptic CGI world imagined by Gabe Askew, who famously created the viral video for Grizzly Bear's "Two Weeks." Askew's treatment for "Oh Love" shows a giant golden bull (Trump) emerging from the ground, as colorful creatures band together to take him down and fight for a brighter future.
