Here’s Your First Look at Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker In Full Makeup

As one of the most instantly recognizable roles in the entertainment world, projects involving DC Comics' The Joker are always watched closely by diehard fans and casual dabblers alike.

Having been played by the likes of Jack Nicholson, the late Heath Ledger (for which he won an Oscar), and most recently Jared Leto, the role has always been a draw for high caliber actors. Earlier this year it was announced that Joaquin Phoenix would be next in line to be painted up as Gotham City's Clown Prince of Crime, and now we're getting our first look at him in the origin story in full makeup.

Todd Phillips, director of The Joker, shared a camera test sequence on Instagram on Friday of Phoenix's character, Arthur, transforming into his maniacal persona. The film, slated for a 2019 release, sees Arthur as a failed comic who turns to murder after being disregarded by society. Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Flesher, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham round out the cast. Watch, below.
