The actress, activist, and mother delivered an impassioned message during a recent protest outside NYU Langone Hospital. In the speech, Nixon defended trans kids, including her own trans child.

The And Just Like That... actress said:

"I'm here as a lifelong New Yorker. But most importantly, I am here today as the mother of a proud trans man, as the aunt of a proud trans man. My best friends' kid is trans, and my kid's best friend is trans. Our lives are filled with the most amazing, beautiful, brave trans people. My trans kid had his top surgery at NYU, and the idea that this city is filled with young people who thought they had a place to go where they could receive the highest care, and that place has now been shut to them, sickens me."

Nixon added, "The last two weeks have been an assault, a barrage, so many horrific things coming at us from every direction. Nothing has made me feel so good as coming around the corner today and seeing you all standing here fighting for trans rights."

Nixon added that she lives right around the corner, and NYU will be "seeing a lot" of her in upcoming protests.

"New York is better than this," she added. "NYU should be better than this. Shame."

The video gained even more traction after it was re-posted by actress Laverne Cox, who wrote in the caption:

"Thank you @cynthiaenixon. Thank you everyone who came out to protest. #transisbeautiful #TransRightsAreHumanRights #ProtectTransKids."

These protests are happening on the heels of President Trump's executive order banning gender-affirming health care for anyone under 19. According to The New York Times, NYU Langone Hospital reportedly canceled appointments for two trans kids to receive puberty blockers, which led to protests against the hospital.
