Happy Friday Out readers!
Did you know that, depending on what city you live in, you could see three films by trans directors in theaters this weekend?
The first is The People's Joker by Vera Drew. As its title suggests, it's a parody of DC Comics' classic supervillain The Joker that asks the question, 'What if the Joker was trans?'" It's hilarious, original, touching, and wild, and is unlike any superhero movie you've ever seen before.
The second is Stress Positions, directed by and starring Theda Hammel. It takes place during the early months of the pandemic and stars John Early as a super-stressed gay man who takes in his mysterious male model nephew to help him heal from a broken leg.
In my review of the film, I called it "the first great comedy about the COVID era" and along with films like Love Lies Bleeding and I Saw the TV Glow, "sets the pace for a new wave of queer cinema."
The third is the aforementioned I Saw the TV Glow, a haunting and atmospheric trans metaphor wrapped in a devilishly haunting teen horror film.
Written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun, this film follows two teen best friends (Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine who are obsessed with a Buffy-style TV show called The Pink Opaque. As they grow up, the line between reality and fiction blurs, and they aren't sure if the show was just a show, or something more.
All three are terrific and exciting films that should be seen by as many people as possible.
Now, onto the news.

Gayest Song of the Week
Lil Nas X and Kevin Abstract have teamed up for a new song called "Tennessee" that delivers laid back vocals over a truly vibey beat. It's great seeing Lil Nas X collab with other queer rappers, and we hope we see more of it in the future!
Fun Gay Things We Did This Week
This week, I (Mey Rude), Raffy Ermac, and Jade Delgado all saw Challengers in theaters. You need to do the same. Out contributor Gabriella Angelina also attended and covered the premiere of the new season of AMC's Interview With the Vampire!
Comment of the Week
The Comment of the Week comes from X-Men '97's Gambit, AJ LoCascio! After we wrote about how the entire internet is freaking out over how hot he is, he replied and retweeted, saying "Wow. Wasn't expecting this reaction. Merci, mes amis ♥️♠️♦️♣️."
