Rapper Ice Spice recently appeared on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live to talk about her voice acting role in The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. While there, she told the notoriously messy talk show host that her squabble with fellow rapper Latto was never real. Fans of the show called in and asked what inspired Ice Spice to put aside her differences with Latto to collaborate on "Gyatt." Fans also asked what her favorite part of filming the music video was.
"Um, what made me wanna squash it? It wasn't a real beef to begin with, to be honest," Ice Spice replied. The New York native didn't offer up any specifics about their faux beef, but then shared what she enjoyed about collaborating with Latto. "The whole video was so fun. It was like, everybody was just joking around the whole time, to the point where, like, I remember my manager was like, 'Can y'all wrap it up? Hurry up.' It was really fun. Shoutout to Latto."
The "beef" in question seemingly stemmed from alleged disses in songs released by both Ice Spice and Latto over the past few years. The two rappers also seemed to have chosen sides in the Cardi B and Nicki Minaj war: Latto collaborated with Cardi on a remix for "Put It on da Floor," whereas Ice Spice worked with the Minaj on a remix of "Princess Diana" and "Barbie World." In the past, Minaj has praised Ice Spice and even called her the "princess of rap."
The beef dates back to 2023 when Latto was featured on a song with Offset, called "Fine as Can Be," that seemed to reference Ice Spice's "Munch (Feelin' U)." As the featured artist, Latto raps, "That n---- a munch / Yo' bookin' fee, ate it for lunch / I don't do backends, need it up front / I'm big dawg, you bitches is runts."
Ice Spice allegedly returned the shots on "Think U the Shit (Fart)," released in January 2024, in which the rapper seems to reference Latto's "Put It on da Floor," and raps, "I got my foot on they necks, I can't let up / She all on the floor, told her get up."
Now, it seems like Ice Spice and Latto have moved on from the debacle and put their feud behind them.
