A gay teen romance we can't wait to see is coming soon to theaters, and Josh O'Connor is involved!
Bonus Track, which has a screenplay by Mike Gilbert (who also crafted the story with O'Connor) and is directed by Julia Jackman, came out in the UK this past summer and is set for release in the United States this October. Set in 2006, the movie follows a 16-year-old teen named George who has a passion for music, but is ignored by everyone around him – until a new student arrives at his school.
"So, when Max - the son of a mega-famous musical duo - enrolls at his school and takes an interest in his music, George can’t believe it! Neither can anyone else," the film's description reads. "But as the boys grow closer, George begins to question why he actually wants to spend time with Max... George is faced with a potential dream come true - if he can just figure out what that dream now really is…"
In addition to helping create the story, O'Connor -- the 34-year-old English actor is known for starring in movies like God's Own Country and Challengers -- appears in a small role. Bonus Track releases in theaters October 11.
O'Connor is certainly making a name for himself in gay film, having first starred in 2017's God's Own Country, where he played a gay farmworker, and then in this year's Challengers, where he played a tennis player obsessed with his best friend and his wife.
He's also currently filming the queer movie The History of Sound with Paul Mescal. In the film, they play lovers who set out to record the lives, voices, and music of their countrymen during World War I.
O'Connor has also signed up for another Luca Guadagnino movie, the upcoming Separate Rooms, an adaptation of the 1989 novel of the same name that follows the romance between an Italian iconoclast writer and his translator.
We are certainly not complaining at all!
