Watch out lesbians, we've got a new movie to freak out about!
Kiersey Clemons is set to star alongside Euphoria alum Barbie Ferreira in the new drag king comedy film The Young King.
Set in the 1990s drag scene of Las Vegas, The Young King is the directorial debut of Larin Sullivan, who also wrote the script.
In it, Clemons plays Jules, an aspiring drag king who comes to Las Vegas to reconnect with her estranged father and make her debut performance in the U.S.'s biggest drag king revue. Michael Shannon stars as her father, Mick, a legendary gambler and part-time children's clown who "is less than excited to see his daughter 'Julia' presenting as masculine, wearing suits, and chasing after Ronnie (Barbie Ferreira), a no-nonsense dancer."
Not only does the movie have a great cast and premise, but it will also feature music from songwriter Justin Tranter (who has written hits for Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, just to name a few), who is serving as the executive music producer and writing original music for the film.
"We are delighted to present Larin's fresh twist on a classic Vegas story by shining a light on the drag king scene, which has rarely, if ever, been explored on the big screen," David Garrett, CEO of Mister Smith Entertainment said. "Led by our stellar cast, this is an incredibly emotional father-daughter story that will resonate with buyers and audiences."
Clemons, who is queer and uses she/her and they/them pronouns, is also starring in the upcoming superhero movie The Flash, starring Ezra Miller. She plays Iris West, The Flash's love interest. She'll also be starring in an upcoming live action Godzilla and Monsterverse show from Apple TV+.
Ferreira, who is also queer, recently left her role as Kat Hernandez in the popular HBO drama Euphoria. She also appeared in Jordan Peele's hit film Nope.
This is one of the most exciting movie projects about queer women we've heard about in a while, so you can be sure we'll keep you up to date on every development around the movie.
