For the Hollywood awards season, all red carpets lead to the Oscars. One of the most anticipated nights in Tinseltown requires a highly anticipated line-up of fashions, and every year the nominees (and other attendees) bring out the looks in spades. There’s always undoubtedly a few haute couture pieces, a ton of custom, and more than one surprise.
This year things got started over an hour early, with some of our favorites like Shangela and Billy Porter arriving mid day, each kicking things off with dynamic ensembles. As the red carpet continues to unfurl, we will update this slideshow with the best dressed queers (and queer icons) to hit the floor.
She may have started as a baby, first bursting on the scene with RuPaul’s Drag Race season two, but she turned it up on the Oscars red carpet tonight (as a guest of Jenifer Lewis). Our Shangela is truly all grown up, stunning in her custom Diego Montoya gown.
Hoop, there it is! (Skirt, that is.) The Pose actor gave the kids a definite serve, stepping out on the carpet in a tuxedo-turned-gown — which would later change into palazzo pants — all made by Christian Siriano. (Well, except for the chunky 6-inch heel you couldn’t see; those were Rick Owens.)
Whether or not she ends up going home with an Oscar (we have no doubt she will,) Lady Gaga has already turned up to the festivities in a 128.54-carat Tiffany diamond. The last time it’s been seen? On Audrey Hepburn in a Breakfast at Tiffany’s shoot. What else was there to put with that stunner of an Alexander McQueen gown?
