Telfar Hosts 'Family' Dinner Party to Celebrate CFDA Nomination

New York-based designer Telfar Clemens is never one to work within fashion norms, having recently launched an entire redesign of White Castle's uniforms. For their Spring '18 presentation at NYFW, the burgeoning brand decided to trade a flashy, big budget production for an intimate "Family" dinner in celebration of their 2017 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund nomination.

The collection reflected on Telfar's 12-year-long history, featuring staple silhouettes worn by friends, family and muses that have stood alongside Clemens since the start. Queer notables like Torraine, Raul Lopez (of Luar), Shayne Oliver, Dev Hynes, Venus X and Ian Isiah all modeled during the dinner party, as well as "LMK" singer Kelela. Rather than strut down a classic runway, Telfar's cast simply walked to their seat at dinner and broke bread with guest journalists.

Every year the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund invites 10 rising U.S.-based brands to compete in a series of challenges for a prize of $400,000, and mentorship from CFDA members and Vogue editors. The winner and two runners-up will be announced at a New York gala on November 6 (runners-up each take home $150,000). In addition to Telfar, this year's finalists are: Ahlem, Chromat, Dyne, Jordan Askill, Mateo, RtA, Sandy Liang, Vaquera and Victor Glemaud.
