Is the bus still running?
Plane Jane is spilling all the tea about Project Runway season 22 in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly. The villainous queen reveals how she was cast on the hit show and how she's dealt with being one of the first designers eliminated. And there is no shortage of shade being thrown at her Drag Race and Project Runway judge, Law Roach.
In the premiere episode earlier this month, Roach shared his critiques on Jane's repurposed Drag Race look for the season's first challenge.
"We didn't see fashion. We saw a spiky cooch. I wish I was on another show because I would make you lip sync for your life," Law told Plane.
"Oh my gosh!" replies Plane. "But, listen, I would kill that lip sync."
"Well, I wish you had killed the look," Law said, shrugging. "But you didn't."
At the top of the second episode, Jane was eliminated from the competition alongside her Drag Race season 16 sister Q. She admits, however, that her critiques from Roach were fair.
"I set Law up for a few zingers," she told EW. "Iām not too mad at it. The critiques were pretty brief. I mostly heard from Law, and I take no offense to that critique at all. I wouldn't say my look was criticized in a way that would make me question my career path. My career path was in fact reaffirmed by Law saying that this is a drag look and perhaps not a look meant for this particular show."
In typical Plane Jane fashion, she had to throw a couple daggers of her own at Roach's sense of style.
"Law has a lot of interesting and questionable wig choices," she said. "From the short black wig to the short blonde wig. An Ellen DeGeneres, Jane Lynch ādo with visible lace he had on. Law has some questionable hair and fashion choices for himself."
Even though Jane praised Roach's work with his A-list roster of clients, including Zendaya and Ariana Grande, she was still happy to shade his latest outfits on the red carpet.
"Law is known for curating sickening looks for his celebrity clients, but maybe sort of skimping out on himself, unfortunately. As a drag queen, I relate to that because Iād say Iām a celebrity stylist for Plane Jane. I curate sickening outfits when I need to, but out of drag, as Andrew, I spend a little less time on him. Law is in the same mentality, like, 'I can wear whatever, girl. I can slap on this shake-and-go bus driver wig with visible lace, as long as my client is happy.'"
As for how Jane wound up cast on Project Runway, she revealed what she meant by telling her online followers recently she "finagled" her way onto the show.
"I got scouted! The casting producer reached out to my manager, Maddie, and I heard of the offer through that," she said. "I went through the entirety of the casting process. There was no foul play. Nothing unusual or off-the-books. They thought that, after all was said and done, I was perfect for the show."
Now that she's had some time away from the Project Runway cameras since being eliminated, she's taking back her claim that the show was a "waste of time."
"I rescind my statement that it was a waste of time! I wouldāve loved to stay a little bit longer. Iām so delusional that even after seeing my look on the runway, I was under the impression that I was safe. I donāt think any appearance on any network is a waste of time. Iām happy to do any other TV show. I hope that what my stint on Project Runway has shown is that I will not say no to anything. I hope other networks and programs were watching, and hopefully youāll see me on the Great British Bake-Off soon!"
