How many of us have tried to bare our soul to a close friend, admitting that we have feelings, only for them to brush it off and treat it like a joke?
Well, now, we know that comedian Jerrod Carmichael has done it too.
Over the weekend, a clip from the Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show, a new comedy documentary series about the comedian airing on HBO, went viral for showing just how weird it can be to confess feelings for a friend.
In the clip, Carmichael is talking to his close friend Tyler, the Creator about his feelings for him, and Tyler’s lack of an answer when he asked if the feelings were reciprocated.
“You called me ‘stupid bitch,’” Carmichael begins the clip, causing Tyler to laugh.
“I did, and I think I just brushed it off,” he said. “Getting news like that and then avoiding it is a way to avoid change.”
“That was a lot to download, and now we’re here. And I still don’t know how to respond,” he continued.
“It did suck not talking to you. I didn’t think brushing that off and continuing regular would be such a dent. I don’t know what would’ve been the ideal response?” Tyler asked.
“I don’t know, talk about it the next day, call me, and look at me and bring it up and fucking move on and fucking go to burgers,” Carmichael replied. “This, I don’t know. More than… you can feel yourself not answering though, right?”
“I don’t know what you want me to answer!” Tyler replied. “Are you wanting the same thing from me? You tell me that, I’m like, ‘no, not like that.’ That’s like a brother, that man’s like family. Like truly like family. Like a true brother.”
At that moment, the scene became a whole different level of uncomfortable as Tyler had ordered food, which arrived in the exact middle of the conversation.
Tyler then proceeded to eat his food without talking, then asks Carmichael if he’s going to finish his food. “Oh, I wasn’t implying I wanted it. I know I don’t want any of that. I’m big straight. Big straight on that,” he said, definitely only talking about the food.

Carmichael tried to steer the conversation back in an adult direction by asking Tyler what he was seeking, but Tyler just responded, “in life, or on this plate?” before talking about butter, burping, and farting.
This is peak cringe comedy. And the fact that it’s real makes it even more heightened. Jerrod, we feel you.
