Sorry, Pillion fans, the film's star, and Out cover star Alexander Skarsgård, has clarified that he never "intended" for people to think he had come out as bisexual.
In Pillion, Skarsgård plays Ray, a brooding gay biker in the kinky, queer biker film that comes out in the U.S. on February 6. This isn't his first time playing queer (see: True Blood), and after wearing kink fashion on the Pillion press tour and fully embracing the subculture in interviews, some fans thought the actor might be queer too.
Now, he has clarified to Variety that he didn't come out as bisexual during a previous interview about the film. As background, in October 2025, some fans thought that the actor came out as bisexual in an interview about the film with Variety.
"I found that in this case, it's not really relevant what my background is. I mean, I do have a kid, but what I've done in the past, who I've been with, men, women... to me, what was important was that this felt like an opportunity to tell a story about a subculture I hadn't seen portrayed this way — with so much authenticity," Skarsgård said in the October 2025 piece.
Now, in Variety's latest cover story, the actor clarifies that he never meant to insinuate he had been with men in the past. When asked to elaborate on his previous comments and whether it was meant as a coming out, Skarsgård was "taken aback," according to the magazine.
"That it resonated with my past? It was definitely not an intended statement. I don't know what I was talking about," he says.
"Maybe it has to do with — there’s a lot of focus sometimes on me as an actor. Maybe it was trying to shift the focus more to the story and these characters. And the importance of telling the story like this," he continues.
Pillion comes out in U.S. theaters on February 6.
