Singer-songwriter Angel Olsen came out this weekend, officially introducing her girlfriend to the world.
"My beau, I'm gay," Olsen wrote on her Instagram on Saturday, accompanying a post with pictures of Adele Thibodeaux, her partner. Thibodeaux, who uses they/them pronouns, is a writer on HBO's High Maintenance. She also posted a picture of her smiling face with the words "I'm gay!!!" in her Instagram Stories.
Olsen, who is known for dreamy, guitar-heavy tracks like "Shut Up and Kiss Me" and her great bangs, has been making music since 2012, when she released her debut album Half Way Home. She's released four more albums since then, and recently announced a new box set of her music.Titled Song of the Lark and Other Far Memories, the box set will include her 2019 album All Mirrors, last year's album Whole New Mess, and a new LP, Far Memories which features remixes, alternate versions of songs, and a Roxy Music cover.
Thibodeaux has been posting pictures of Olsen on their social media since at least December, but had not commented on their relationship. In one particularly cute post on January 22, Thibodeaux posted a series of pictures of Olsen smiling from the front seat of her car and captioned it, "It's angels birthday, here she is dropping me off a few times."
Then on Valentine's Day, Thibodeaux posted more pictures of Olsen, including one where she is hugging them and kissing their head. "Happy valens," she posted, adding a large number of exclamation points. Over on Olsen's Instagram on that same day, she posted a picture of Thibodeaux, and captioned it "Happy Valentine's to you and yours."
Olsen has long had a large queer fan base, and this was brought up to her in a 2019 New York Times article. When asked about it, Olsen said she was straight, but added: "for now."This has been a big year for celebrities coming out already, with actors like 9-1-1: Lone Star actor Ronen Rubeinstein and The Crown's Emma Corrin coming out, country star T.J. Osbourne becoming one of the first out gay male country singers, and YouTube star JoJo Siwa coming out. Additionally, stars like Kehlani and Demi Lovato have stated new identities for themselves, after years of being out.
