Beauty and the Beast star Luke Evans confirmed that he has split from his art director boyfriend Rafael Olarra in a new interview with The Times. The couple started dating in summer of 2019 and went public with their relationship back in February of 2020.
Fans had been speculating that the pair split up in October when Evans unfollowed Olarra on Instagram and deleted all photos of Olarra on his own account. Evans confirmed that the couple are no longer together, saying "It is what it is."
He also opened up about his desire to start a family, and said that maybe the time is right to start a family on his own.
"I thought about it many times," Evans said when asked if he had thought about becoming a dad, "and as I get older I'm thinking maybe I should get on and do it."
"I don't want to be an old dad... but I would like to be a dad," he continued. "There's a lot of satisfaction to passing on your experiences and rearing a strong, open-minded, kind, respectful human being who can go out in the world and do something good."
Evans also talked about playing a gay character for the first time in his career in the upcoming series Nine Perfect Strangers. "It was nice to play a gay character after all these years of doing roles on stage and screen," Evans said.
Nine Perfect Strangers is an upcoming thriller created by David E. Kelley and also stars Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Manny Jacinto, Samara Weaving, Regina Hall, Michael Shannon, and Tiffany Boone. It will debut on Hulu in 2021. He's also leads The Pembrokeshire Murders which premieres tonight in the U.K.
