In celebration of National Coming Out Day this Sunday, Facebook is premiering an hourlong special hosted by singer Demi Lovato and Queer Eye star Tan France. The special, Coming Out 2020, will feature LGBTQ artists, entertainers, and activists sharing testimonials about how they came out.
The special is one hour long and features testimonials from model/actor Ruby Rose (Batwoman), actor and businesswoman Angelica Ross (Trans Tech Social, Pose), drag queen Trixie Mattel, image architect Law Roach, actor Nico Tortorella (Younger), influencer Tyler Oakley, and ballroom icon Leiomy Maldonado. Queer recording artist LP will also appear for a musical performance.
Produced by Scout Productions, who also makes Queer Eye, Coming Out 2020 looks to boost LGBTQ+ voices, and provide advice and messages of support to LGBTQ+ people struggling with coming out. Whether you're closeted, wondering how to talk to your parents about gender, or looking for community, Facebook and Instagram are trying to offer support this Coming Out Day.
Rob Eric, chief creative officer of Scout Productions, said that this is a day when the whole LGBTQ+ community can come together. "Everyone in the LGBTQIA community has a different experience when it comes to their coming out journey," he said in a statement, "It's that uniqueness that bonds us as a community."
Coming Out 2020 is available to watch on the Facebook App Page, and is one part of Facebook and Instagram's new features and resources for National Coming Out Day. Instagram also partnered with PFLAG, It Gets Better, and The Tegan and Sara Foundation to release guides offering tips on safety and support for newly out people and those who want to come out. Facebook is releasing a new set of Coming Out Day themed stickers and a custom hashtag feed for #ComingOut2020.
"Scout Productions is honored to work with Facebook to celebrate Coming Out Day with everyone in the community no matter where you are on your path to sharing your gender identity and seuxal orientation," Eric added.
