Coby Zutt Gets Weirdly Sexual: Artist Talks Lust, Fear, and Being Inspired by Hot Messes

There are two words to describe Coby Zutt's artwork: horrifying and arousing. The conflicting emotions are what makes the 24-year-old New Zealanders artwork so captivating. OUT caught up with the gay artist to discuss what inspires him to create.

OUT: What inspires you?
CZ: I grew up with a tattooist father, so I was always surrounded by creative people. I watched a lot of horror films and cartoons. I'm inspired by lust, love, and fear. The way that we look at each other when we wanna fuck, you know. I like to be confrontational. Oh, I also love to party so I love when people are a hot mess, that inspires me.

What do you hope to achieve with your art?
I just wanna create all the time and leave behind my lil mark. I really wanna start putting my work on shirts and bags and stuff. And I've always wanted to make dolls and dress them up with cool shit like harnesses and chains and like not much else. Like mini dead sex dolls. I wanna animate my work too. I have high hopes but mostly I just wanna share my visions and for people to enjoy what I create.
