Theda Hammel has long been a staple of the Brooklyn queermusic and comedy scenes, as the solo artist behind the EPs Very Great, SondHamm, and Partial Magic as well as a frequent onstage collaborator of OUT 100 honoree John Early.
Her next project will see her taking on the lead role in a staged production of Marie & Bruce, produced by Early.
Written by Wallace Shawn, Marie and Bruce first graced the stage in 1978. In 2004 it was adapted into a film starring Julianne Moore and Matthew Broderick. The story follows the title couple's complex-yet-whimsical relationship, as Marie contemplates leaving Bruce but can't seem to act with any confident decisiveness.

Hammel has long been drawn to the character, and her casting is sure to offer a fresh, exciting, modern take on the classic production. She's joined in the ensemble by Gordon Landenberger (BAM Next Wave Festival) as Bruce, Matt Barats (Just For Laughs), Peter Mills Weiss (La Mama), Eudora Peterson (Handmaid's Tale: the Musical), Lorelei Ramirez (The Chris Gethard Show), and Alexandra Tatarsky (PS 122).
