Amy Schumer is set to make her Broadway debut in Steve Martin's comedy Meteor Shower, Rolling Stonereports. The show is shaping to be quite the amalgamation of hilarious personalities: Keegan-Michael Key is one of her costars, as is Laura Benanti (who won a Tony for Gypsy) and Alan Tudyk (Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph).
Meteor Shower follows two couples getting together for dinner to watch a meteor shower, and the antics and marital misadventures that ensue. Schumer and Tudyk will play one couple and Key and Benanti the other.
"A meteor shower actually came to me first," Martin told the San Diego Tribune on writing the play. "I liked the idea of it--I liked the idea of a couple going to watch a meteor shower. And then the next thing is, well, who is everybody? And when I started to think about who everybody is (in the play), that's when it got worthy. Because I had a psychological interpretation of who everybody was, and that gave me something to write from."
The play had its world premiere in San Diego last year at the Old Globe theater, where the cast included The Office's Jenna Fischer, along with Greg Germann, Josh Stamberg, and Alex Henrikson. The Broadway run opens November 29, with previews beginning November 1, at the Booth Theatre. It'll be directed by Jerry Zaks (The House of Blue Leaves, Six Degrees of Separation, Guys and Dolls).
Last year, Martin's first musical, Bright Star, wrapped its Broadway run, for which it was nominated for 5 Tonys: Best Musical, Best Book, Best Original Score, Best Lead Actress in a Musical, and Best Orchestrations.
Schumer is also set to star in the movie I Feel Prettyalongside Emily Ratajkowski, where she'll play a normal woman who falls and wakes up thinking she's the most beautiful and capable woman alive.
