'Falcon and The Winter Soldier's Head Super Soldier Is Gay, Fans Learn

Erin Kellyman never hid the fact she was queer, as evidenced by the abundance of pics with her girlfriend Jordana O'Coy posted to their social media. But some fans only recently realized the talented young actor who portrays Karli Morganthau in Marvel's Falcon and the Winter Soldier series now appearing on Disney+ was out, and they provided a hilarious and affirming rainbow of responses to their discovery.

"Erin Kellyman is gay," one follower victoriously declared on Twitter.

Another follower professed the revelation suddenly provided them with "a will to live."

Kellyman, who previously starred in Solo: A Star Wars Story, plays Karli Morgenthau, a leader of the Flag Smashers group who are pushing for what they see as a more equitable world, by any means necessary.. The events take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe six months after the conclusion of events in the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame. The character of Morganthau underwent a gender swap for the series, changing from Karl to Karli. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprise their roles of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, and the cast also includes Don Cheadle, Wyatt Russell, and others.

Marvel Comics has been at the forefront of developing LGBTQ+ characters and affirming storylines. Last year Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy comic series was revealed to be poly and bisexual. Marvel also introduced the first gay superhero with an onscreen love interest in their library of titles. Phastos, portrayed by Brian Tyree Henry in The Eternals, will have a husband (portrayed by Hanz Sleiman), and the two will share both a child and an onscreen kiss.

"It's a beautiful, very moving kiss," Sleiman said of the superhero liplock last year. "Everyone cried on set."

The mixed-race Kellyman has never hidden the fact she is gay. She is currently dating Jordana O'Coy, and their social media profiles show the two together frequently. In one post, the pair can be seen celebrating at a Pride in 2019.

Last June, O'Coy posted a pic of the two casually seated together outdoor, saying her "gay ass self" was the happiest she'd ever been because of Kellyman.

The Eternals is due for release in November. Falcon and the Winter Soldier can be streamed now on Disney+.
