‘American Horror Story: 1984’ Is Going to Camp

The Met Ball is shaking.

The theme of this year's gayer-than-ever Met Gala was camp (heard of it), and it looks like that's now the theme of American Horror Story: 1984 as well. In a new teaser, we're introduced to Camp Redwood, the setting for the horror anthology's upcoming new season.

The teaser features two clips that don't star any of the show's actual characters, but rather, set the scene and tone for 1984. In the first, a car full of kids drinking beer cruise into Camp Redwood, missing that the sign is painted with an ominous warning: "Beware." They also miss that the show's new villain is stowed away under the car, ready to terrorize them with a scary looking knife. In the next clip, the kids frolic by a lake, one girl drifting alone in a canoe. The same masked killer pops out of the water and raises the knife.

AHS: 1984will take a cue from the decade's campy slasher movies -- big Friday the 13th energy -- although with a title like 1984, one can only hope they'll also fit in some kind of Orwellian Big Brother dystopia. After all, American Horror Story loves a B plot...and a C plot, and a D plot, and an X plot. Remember Asylum?

The cast for the upcoming season is pretty gay. The lineup includes Olympian Gus Kenworthy in his first acting role, plus Pose's Angelica Ross. Others joining the cast include Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Cody Fern, Leslie Grossman, Matthew Morrison, DeRon Horton, and Zach Villa.

American Horror Story: 1984 premires on FX on September 18.
