The 10 Best Television Shows of 2018
Amid all of the television shows being shoved down our throats, there are a few highlights that kept us turning on our television or cranking up our streaming services. Tre'vell Anderson, Rose Dommu, and Glenn Garner bring you the shows of the year we couldn't get enough of.
Pose
This groundbreaking Emmy-nominated series dove deep into New York City's captivating 80s ball scene, putting trans people of color and the AIDS crisis at the forefront. It wasn't just a huge step for queer representation on TV, it was a serve, honey! -- Rose Dommu
Sharp Objects
Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn's first novel was adapted into HBO's most enthralling original series of the year. Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson went head to head as different generations of women dealing with pain -- inflicting it on others or turning it onto themselves -- in one fucked up family. -- Rose Dommu
GLOW
This show already had all the '80s glam and feminist storylines we needed. But season two took it to a new level and even gave us a couple of queer storylines to tug at our heartstrings. -- Glenn Garner
The Bisexual
Desiree Akhavan gave us a beautiful manifesto of bisexual life in this Hulu series. It depicted struggles common to many bisexuals that still don't have the proper representation in media, from coming out as bi after already coming out as gay to navigating stereotypes and slut-shaming. -- Glenn Garner
The Chi
What's important about Lena Waithe's The Chi is that it's not concerned about the white imagination or with the white gaze onto a community on the South Side of Chicago. Aplombly written, it treats the complex identities of its characters with the care and nuance often not afforded to Black bodies. -- Tre'vell Anderson
Killing Eve
This show gave us the most iconic bisexual antihero of the 20th century. And Sandra Oh's performance has us on the edge of our seats for season two. -- Glenn Garner
The Haunting of Hill House
One of literature's most famous ghost stories was the jumping off point for a compelling psychological family drama in Netflix's best Halloween offering. When the Crain siblings weren't struggling with addiction and loss, they -- and the audience -- were getting scared shitless by some of the spookiest ghosts on TV. -- Rose Dommu
Claws
Niecy Nash was long overdue for her own show, and this one is the perfect tribute to her talents. Her crime ring of nail artists is the ultimate #squadgoals. -- Glenn Garner
Dear White People
Justin Simien's dramatic comedy about a group of Black students at a predominantly white institution is some of the most incisive critique of race in America on any screen, hands down! Its cast of young, Black Hollywood -- Logan Browning, Brandon P. Bell, DeRon Horton, Antoinette Robertson, Marque Richardson, Nia Jervier and Ashley Blaine Featherson among others-- can't be touched. -- Tre'vell Anderson
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
This is the dark reboot of Sabrina the Teenage Witch we didn't know we needed. And with a hot pansexual warlock cousin, this show is filled with some woke-ass witchery. -- Glenn Garner
