Tom Daley could be set to have his best showing at the Olympics this summer in Tokyo.
This weekend, the athlete headed to Budapest, Hungary to compete in the European Championships. According to a post from Daley that went live before the competition, it was the last chance that the diver and his competing partner Matthew Lee would have to compete before the Olympics. The event comes just weeks after Daley won two gold medals (one for synchronized and one for individual diving) at the World Cup. Good thing for the boys though: they ended strong.
"Really happy with today's performance!" Daley wrote to Instagram, announcing that the pair had won gold. Gold medal, personal best, and a British record! But the best thing from the day was the video Dustin Lance Black sent me! Swipe to see how excited Robbie was! My heart literally melts!"
Throughout the season Daley has posted about being away from his husband of eight years, Black, and their son Robbie.
With his performance in synchronized diving on Saturday, Daley scored his personal best of his career with a score of 477.27 points for six dives. This was also his first time winning a gold medal for synchronized diving at the European Championships. The win was the first title for British Divers at the 2021 European events.
Today, Daley will compete in individual diving. It is the last day of the competition. He hopes to win the title, which he last won in 2016. The athlete also recently announced a new memoir titled Coming Up For Air. In it, he will reflect on "life, love, and career to date. My constantly shifting perspectves have given me a totally different outlook on what really matters most in life."
The book is currently available for pre-order but will publish in October.
