Hello Out Readers, welcome to another Monday.
Are you watching Ryan Murphy's new show Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story?
The new crime drama from Murphy and Ian Brennen is the follow up to their 2022 show Dahmer: Monster -- The Jeffrey Dahmer story and focuses on the Menéndez brothers, Lyle and Erik, who killed their parents in 1989 after lifetimes of abuse at the hands of their father.
Murphy's shows are no stranger to controversy, but this one is courting controversy thanks to one of its subjects actually responding to the show.
Erik Menéndez, who is in prison, released a statement through his wife (who married him while he was in prison) condemning the show.
"It is sad for me to know that Netflix's dishonest portrayal of the tragedies surround our crime have taken the painful truths several steps backward – back through time to an era when the prosecution built a narrative on a belief system that males were not sexually abused, and that males experienced rape trauma differently than women," he said.
Check out our story to read his full statement.
Now, onto the news.
