Vanessa Hudgens is joining the judging panel of So You Think You Can Dance, according to Entertainment Weekly. And, naturally, we have a few questions: First, was anyone else aware that SYTYCD is still on air? Second, did Vanessa really do much dancing over the course of her career? We seem to remember a lot of her standing still and clutching a microphone as Zac Efron and friends did jazz squares throughout the High School Musical franchise. Are we wrong?
Hudgens has been largely absent from the forefront since she blessed us with HSM and her powerful pop anthems, "Say OK," and, "Come Back To Me." She's showed up now and then in floral ensembles for Coachella appearances, acted in Spring Breakers, did recent feature on a Shawn Hook song and hosted the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, but Hudgens' cultural cache has certainly worn thin.
On SYTYCD's 14th season. she'll join seasoned judges Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe at the panel, in a rotating chair that previously been held by the likes of Adam Shankman, Mia Michaels, Paula Abdul, Jason Derulo and Maddie Ziegler. Interesting that another new dance show, World of Dance, seems to be employing all the star power reality TV has to offer, with Jennifer Lopez and Ne-Yo both serving as judges. Can Hudgens compete with Jenny from the block? We thinks probably not.
