Starbucks Hops on Trend, Premieres Insanely Queer Unicorn Frappuccino
What could easily be misconstrued as a late April Fool's Day joke from Starbucks is actually a very real, very limited time offer.
This morning the coffee conglomerate unveiled the Unicorn Frappuccino, hopping on the food trend that's taken Instagram by storm. Similar to "unicorn hot chocolate" and "unicorn toast," the new frap oozes pastel colors and sugars, and practically begs to be 'grammed.
Made with pink powder blended into cream Frappuccino with mango syrup and layered with a sour blue drizzle, the limited edition beverage (available April 19-23 at select stores across the country) boasts a color and flavor changing dynamic.
"Like its mythical namesake, the Unicorn Frappuccino blended creme comes with a bit of magic, starting as a purple beverage with swirls of blue and a first taste that is sweet and fruity," Starbucks said in a statement. "But give it a stir and its color changes to pink, and the flavor evolves to tangy and tart. The more swirl, the more the beverage's color and flavors transform."
Don't expect to enjoy this fantastical drink guilt-free though, a tall Unicorn Frappuccino will run you 280 calories, 11 grams of fat and 39 grams of sugar. If you're going to drink a unicorn, be prepared to run like one to burn it off.
