Was Lady Gaga Banned From Trump Talk During the Super Bowl Halftime Show?

Lady Gaga has been actively rehearsing (in her backyard) for her performance at this year's Super Bowl Halftime Show, but according to an unnamed Entertainment Tonight source, the NFL has one demand of Mother Monster before the big day: Leave out any Trump Talk.

"Lady Gaga was told by the NFL that she cannot say anything or bring anything up about the election, or mention Donald Trump," the source told ET.

An update from NFL suggests otherwise: "This is unsourced nonsense from people trying to stir up controversy where there is none," the rep told TMZ. "The Super Bowl is a time when people really come together. Lady Gaga is focused on putting together an amazing show for fans and we love working with her on it; we aren't going to be distracted by this."

Gaga has a long political history of supporting Hillary Clinton's campaign, not only singing at her final rally before election day and during a surprise July concert at the DNC, but also by posting a number of appeals to voters across her social media accounts.

Considering the Super Bowl Halftime Show is "the most watched musical event of the year," with more than 116 million viewers tuning into last year's broadcast, Gaga has the potential to make a powerful political statement through her performance. But it's a risk. Never forget the backlash Beyonce came under after she and her dances wore costumes similar to those of Black Panthers. Not everyone seems to want politics with their Sunday Football.
