The 25th (gasp!) James Bond film is listed as "announced" on IMDb, and our current Bond-in-residence Daniel Craig is "rumored" to be taking on the international man of mystery for a fifth time.
But that rumor mill's been working overtime, on several accounts: even though Craig is believed to be contracted to make five Bond films,
he has hinted
that last year's
Spectre
may have been his last.
So who should take his place? The fandom everywhere has something to say about this, and apparently two frontrunners have come to the fore--both, coincidentally, from the
Thor
movies.
First, we have the suave Tom Hiddleston (a.k.a. Loki), whose most recent series, the BBC's
The Night
Manager,
is soon coming stateside. In the show, he plays a British spy, which naturally fuels the fires when it comes to Bond rumors. Hiddleston has weathered this with charm, grace and humility, telling Jimmy Kimmel, "when you mention it, there's a part of me that goes, 'really, are you kidding?'" Check out Hiddleston's chat with Kimmel below.
But we're hoping for a long-overdue changeup in the Bondverse. While we're probably still a generation or so away from getting a gay 007 (imagine if all those beautiful women were
men
!), it's high time for a Bond of color. Enter fan favorite Idris Elba, who played Heimdall in the
Thor
films, and whose undeniable British sex appeal could send both Daniel Craig
and
Tom Hiddleston on a run for their money.
In an era of a black US president and the prospect of our first female commander in chief (fingers crossed), it's high time for a black Bond. Do you agree?
