What do you mean Cooper Hoffman opens a door to find Charli xcx and a fully naked Christian Wilde in I Want Your Sex? What do you mean?!
Elliot (Cooper Hoffman) gets a shock when he goes to see his girlfriend Minerva (Charli xcx) and finds a fully naked man in the doorway. Finding the right person for the cameo turned into quite the casting challenge for director Gregg Araki. Heād written one detail directly into the script. Not a character name, not even a description of a person, just a physical requirement. āIt's literally in the script written as like the dude with the big dick," Araki tells Out.
The answer was adult film star Christian Wilde.
"So I knew that it would need to be somebody who worked in adult films, because it's not like actors can just audition and you're like, show me your dick," Araki explains.
The team couldnāt "audition" a penis, but Araki still made sure he wasnāt blindly filling the role. He was aware of Wildeās work, and heard from people in the industry that he was a professional who was easy to work with. Plus, his reputation was incredibly important for his cameo appearance opposite Charli xcx.
"I knew that also because Charliās in that scene, so I didn't want some kind of creepy dude in that scene," Araki says. "He was so nice and so professional, and it was great."
Wildeās scene marks the end of Elliot and Minervaās relationship. Throughout the film, the graduate student seems very focused on her studies with little interest in her boyfriend. Sexually, but also in general. Elliot goes to her apartment to get some resolution on their romance, which is answered with the sight of Minervaās new suitorās massive member.
The casting stayed under the radar enough that even people in the movie didn't clock it until after the fact. Mason Gooding wasn't familiar with Wilde's work going in and his two weeks on set didnāt overlap with Wildeās scene, so he had to find out secondhand. "I've had like three separate people text me, 'he's in your movie,'" he says about Wilde.
The scene itself plays exactly as billed, and Araki is unbothered about saying so plainly. "He's amazing in the movie, and it's such a cool, funny scene," he says. "He really nailed it." A pause, just long enough to know he heard himself. "Yeah, so to speak. Nailed it."
