In a statement provided to People, Grande's reps confirmed that she "will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour. This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much."
The news comes after Grande's eighth studio album, petal, dropped on Friday. Although the record received mixed reviews from critics, the title track's music video sparked more concerns over the pop star's health.
In the video, Grande depicts herself as an aspiring actress who continues to get denied any opportunities and dismissed by Hollywood executives. Toward the end, she decides to take a chainsaw and murder her critics as a way to fight back against the industry's toxicity.
Many fans expressed their worries over her appearance in the comments section on YouTube. One user, Jordan, said, "I can't even enjoy the video without thinking she looks sickly every second she is on the screen."
As a response to all of the noise online, Grande's rep confirmed that "she looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny."
Grande has also reportedly pulled out of her upcoming commitment to return to the stage in a revival of Stephen Sondheimās Sunday in the Park with George. Slated to premiere next year at London's West End, the singer was set to star in the musical alongside her out gay Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey.
The cancellation also follows the news that Grande will no longer appear in season 13 of American Horror Story. Scheduling conflicts on her Eternal Sunshine Tour prevented her from filming the new season.
Fans were divided over the announcement that Grande will take some time away. While many were supportive of the star taking a break from her commitments, others challenged the reasoning behind it.
