On Thursday's episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg was honored on World AIDS Day for over 30 years of activism in the HIV/AIDS community.
Goldberg, who resided in San Francisco when the pandemic began, initially joined the movement after Elizabeth Taylor asked if she'd stand by her side and fight. Goldberg answered without hesitation and has been fighting since.
Taylor's grandchildren and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation surprised Goldberg on the morning talk show to present her with the Elizabeth Taylor Legacy award and announced a four million dollar commitment by the U.S. government to support their work.
