Hamilton Actor On Pence Confrontation: ‘There’s Nothing to Apologize For’

Brandon Victor Dixon, Hamilton

“We wanted to stand up and spread a message of love and unity.”

As if Hamilton needed more press after becoming one of the most successful musicals in Broadway history, last week the cast of the show graced front pages and headlines again when Vice President-elect Mike Pence attended a show.

After being booed by audience members when he entered the theater, the cast of Hamilton had a message for Pence, delivered by actor Brandon Victor Dixon. Dixon went on CBS This Morning to talk about what the message meant and why it was not harassment and why, regardless of Donald Trump demanding an apology in a tweet, "there's nothing to apologize for."

"We recognize that Hamilton is an inherently American story told by the definition of the American community - we are men, women of different colors, creeds, and orientations. The resonant nature of the show throughout the world - throughout the global community demands that we make statements when there are important issues facing us as a community. So we wanted to stand up and spread a message of love and of unity considering all of the emotional outpour since the election."
