Out100: Rob Ashford

Director and Choreographer

Photography by Danielle Levitt

It's difficult to walk down Broadway without seeing Ashford's name emblazoned on a marquee, poster, or Playbill. The prolific director and choreographer is the man behind some of the Great White Way's biggest smash hits, including Curtains, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and the recent revival of Evita. For the past few years, he has also tried his hand -- rather successfully -- at choreographing awards shows, including the Oscars, the Tonys, and the Kennedy Center Honors. With designs on working in motion pictures -- he is attached to choreograph Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella -- it seems there's no limit to Ashford's ambition.

Photographed at the Oak Bar at the Plaza Hotel in New York City on September 12, 2013

I live in this community full of love and joy, and I'm sure Thea would be proud and pleased as hell how I'm living."
