The company issued a statement to clarify what’s going on.

Queerbaiters are shaking!

Over the weekend, a series of tweets showing fake "gay guy" costumes that look like they were being sold by seasonal costume retailer Spirit Halloween went viral on social media. These costumes varied from "gay guy" to "gay loser" to "gay person in terrible outfit." The latter was even re-shared by none other than Lil Nas X.

The rapper joked in the retweet:

"It's funny until u realize both of my dead grandmothers stitched this outfit together by hand right before passing and I wore it to go and donate to a children's hospital after volunteering at a soup kitchen for the homeless. Not so funny now is it?"

After so many of these fake costumes went viral on social media, Spirit Halloween decided to issue a statement clarifying that all of these products are indeed fake and not being sold online or in-store. A representative for Spirit Halloween said:

"This is not an officially licensed costume from our company. Photoshopping our packages seems to be trending at the moment."

This is, in fact, a hilarious trend that has been going on throughout Halloween in 2022. The internet has been getting extremely creative with these parodies, and we're loving them!
