It's been a tough week for trans people, and it's only Monday. That's why Chelsea Manning's news is welcomed with so much positivity.
The activist posted a photo to Twitter this weekend from a hospital bed, post-surgery. Although it doesn't clarify, it's assumed from the context of the tweet that Manning has undergone gender confirmation surgery. Given her journey from soldier to whistleblower to prisoner to trans activist, it's a proud moment for Manning and her supporters.
"After almost a decade of fighting - through prison, the courts, a hunger strike, and through the insurance company - I finally got surgery this week," she wrote.
