Nobody does camp like Anna Faris.
The adored actress and comedian has starred in a slew of iconic roles that have entertained queer audiences for decades. Her most notable projects, such as Scary Movie and The House Bunny, still strongly connect with gays all these years later.
Throughout her career, Faris has taken inspiration from her most cherished characters and applied it to her fierce allyship to the LGBTQ+ community. In The House Bunny, her relatable role as Shelley Darlington has resonated with fans who appreciate her unyielding optimism.
"Shelley would say, 'The eyes are the nipples of the face.' I think one of the reasons that Shelley is beloved is because her wisdom is in loving with an open heart. She's confident in that. If you don't rise to her expectations of being a fundamentally good person, you will get there. That's Shelley's assumption. What a way to approach life. You have to be really strong," Faris tells Out.
Although Faris has made audiences laugh for over two decades, she continues to land hilarious new projects alongside other revered actresses.
In her latest film Spa Weekend, Faris teams up with fellow comedians Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, and Michelle Buteau as they take a much-needed vacation to combat all of their stresses in the real world. The movie touches on important themes of chosen family and friendship to help navigate personal struggles.
"We're stronger together! At the end of the day, it's humanity. Where are we without our chosen family? Sometimes, our family ain't going to do it. I love that these characters have known each other since they were little. Before they got their periods, let's be honest! They went through life together and it's really nice to showcase that," Buteau says.
The four women leading Spa Weekend have plenty of hilarious movies under their belts, but Mann admittedly had a hard time holding her composure while filming the funny scenes throughout the film.
"I found myself checking out as an actor while I was in a scene with him, which is bad to do as an actor. I found myself watching them and being so amused because they're just hilarious. It was a dream job for me sitting back and watching them be super funny," Mann said.
Each character faces hardships that resonate with every type of movie fan. The women struggle with divorce, work-life balance, and health issues that hit close to home.
"How fantastic! This is just straight up fun. It's hilarious. We got chemistry. We've got these funny actresses. It's a moment for women! I'm really glad that we can put something good out there," Fisher says.
