Sparkling Water Fountains Are Coming to Paris

The initiative is to encourage more water drinking & less plastic usage.

Take off your beret and put down that La Croix--Paris has announced its plans to install free sparkling water fountains on its streets citywide. Hitting all 20 neighborhoods in the City of Paris, the initiative, called "Fontaine Petillante," was started to inspire the city's residents to drink more water and use less plastic.

Sparkling water fountains have made a splash in Paris since 2010. Joining the eight existing sites, Parisians will now have greater access to the bubbly fountains in most public parks and picturesque tourist hotspots, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"People often told me that they were ready to drink tap water if it was carbonated," Anne le Strat, the head of the Paris Water Board, said to French magazine 20 Minutes. "Now they they've got no excuse not to."
