Lil Nas X

The gay rapper and country star will be riding high at this year's music ceremony.

The Billboard Music Awards showed a lot of love for Lil Nas X.

The awards show, held by the Billboard music publication, nominated the gay rapper and country star for 13 awards in a Tuesday announcement. The first-time nominee beat Billie Eilish and Khalid in the number of nods; these artists attained 12. He came second only to Post Malone, who scored 16.

Lil Nas X is up for Top New Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top Rap Artist, and Top Rap Male Artist. His hit song "Old Town Road" featuring Billy Ray Cyrus was nominated for Top Hot 100 Song, Top Streaming Song, Top Selling Song, Top Collaboration, and Top Rap Song.

In response, the artist posted a celebratory tweet. "13 BILLBOARD AWARD NOMINATIONS!! LETS GOOOO!" he exclaimed.

The Billboard Music Awards distribute honors based on chart performance, factoring in album and digital sales, touring, streaming, radio airplay, and social engagement. This year's honors track music from March 23, 2019, to March 14, 2020.

Kelly Clarkson will once again host the 2020 ceremony, which will be broadcast live October 14 on NBC from Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre.

Lil Nas X has had a history-making tour of the major music awards ceremonies. Last year, he became the first LGBTQ+ musician to win "Song of the Year" at the VMAs. "Old Town Road" also established the artist as a Grammy winner; he took home Best Music Video and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance this year. In addition to being the most-nominated male artist at music's biggest night, he also won the red carpet in a pink, kink-inspired cowboy ensemble.
