Meet Guo Pei, the designer behind Rihanna's 2015 Met Gala masterpiece.
A new documentary profiles the career and life of legendary Chinese couture designer Guo Pei, who, among other gowns, designed Rihanna's iconic furry yellow masterpiece for the 2015 Met Gala.
The film is titled Yellow is Forbidden and is an official selection of the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival. Directed by Pietra Brettkelly (A Flickering Truth, The Art Star and the Sudanese Twins), the film charts Pei's childhood, rise to fame, and her mission to receive recognition from the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris.

Pei explains in the documentary's trailer that as a child, she'd asked her grandmother for a yellow dress, to which she was told the color is reserved only for the emperor, and forbidden to the working class. Clearly, she decided to defy those rules when she constructed a bright yellow fur-lined gown with a 16-foot train.
