The Tale, a drama about sexual abuse that wowed at this year's Sundance Film Festival, is set to premiere on HBO on May 26. Laura Dern plays the main character, Jennifer Fox, which is also the name of the film's writer, director, and producer. The movie is based on Fox's life, in which she confronts childhood sexual abuse later as an adult.

Even from the 15-second trailer, we can tell this one's going to be tough but essential to watch -- and not just because Laura Dern is in it. At a time when the #MeToo movement has sent Hollywood into a period of reflection, films like The Tale are what we need.
