The first official trailer for Spike's I Am Heath Ledger premiered today online. The new documentary will take a close examination at the personal life and career of one of Hollywood's most profound performers, more than 9 years after his tragic death.

The trailer features clips of interviews with everyone from director Ang Lee to musician and Ledger's close friend Matt Amato, who explains in the video, "He wanted fame--and then when he got it, he didn't want it." Others we know to be spoken with in the doc include Ben Harper, Naomi Watts, Emile Hirsch and Djimon Hounsou.

Ledger died in January 2008 due to complications with prescription drugs. He had at the time already separated from his girlfriend, actress Michelle Williams, with whom he fathered a daughter, Matilda.
