The Pearl follows four middle-aged transgender women as they struggle toward acceptance and love.
Directors Jessica Dimmock and Christopher LaMarca are bringing The Pearl, a sensitive documentary about four trans women, to screen. Audiences will be introduced to Krystal and Jodie, siblings who kept their identities secret from one another for years until an explosive argument culminated in long-suppressed confessions. Meanwhile, Nina hesitates to tell her wife of nearly 40 years that she is trans, while Amy prepares for surgery.
The Pearl deftly examines various trans stories in the hope of illuminating multiple identities and experiences. In this exclusive clip, Krystal and Jodie take a trip to Hawaii, where they freely explore their authentic selves.
The Pearl will at Hot Docs in Toronto tomorrow, May 5 (3:15 PM at Hart House Theatre) and Friday, May 6 (4:00 PM at Fox Theatre).
