What's Your Status? Grindr Considers HIV Filter

Grindr is considering a HIV status filter that would allow users to sort men based on their status. According to Same Same, University of Montreal's David Myles posted the below screenshot in response to academic research on hookup apps.

Though many Grindr users voluntarily disclose their status in their profiles, the potential update would provide a more explicit form to be filled out. Of course, it would still rely on the honesty of the user. Nevertheless, the potential HIV status filter begs the question: Would the update foster a safer hookup environment or create further barriers between gay men?
