Barney Is Back! Neil Patrick Harris Reprising Role for How I Met Your Father Midseason Finale

Barney is back, baby!

Neil Patrick Harris’ iconic womanizer Barney Stinson is returning to television for a role in the upcoming How I Met Your Father two-part midseason finale!

Episodes 10 and 11 of the season will drop on Hulu on Tuesday, March 28, and now we know what we can look forward to in the episodes – including the return of a classic How I Met Your Mother character.

How I Met Your Father stars Hilary Duff as Sophie, who along with her close-knit group of friends is busy figuring out life, who they are, and where to find love. It also stars Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsly, Tien Tran, Suraj Sharma, and recurring stars Kim Cattrall, Daniel Augustin, Ashley Reyes and Josh Peck.

Barney’s return to the franchise was teased back in the Season 2 premiere, in a scene where Sophie is driving her car in a panic and leaves a voicemail on her mom’s phone saying “Mom, please call me back. I think I’m dating my dad.”

She then proceeded to rear end the car in front of her, a car owned by none other than Barney Stinson.

That scene was a flash forward from the Season 2 premiere, so it’s likely that this midseason finale will see us catch up to that scene.

Currently, Sophie is dating the much older Robert (John Corbett), who could very well be her father. In the second part of the midseason finale, titled “Daddy,” Sophie spends the weekend at his country house, possibly leading to some disturbing revelations.

It also seems that that’s when we’ll get Barney’s appearance.

After the midseason finale,

HIMYF will be on break for two months before resuming Season 2 on May 23, culminating with another double part finale on July 11.
