The out Mean Girls star and pop singer's performance was introduced by her friend and TikTok star Jake Shane.
"Get ready and strap in for the amazing, Reneé Rapp," he said. Was that a strap-on pun?
Rapp certainly delivered an electrifying performance of the new track about wanting to be left alone so she can get into some shenanigans. It begins in a girl's bathroom stall, where Rapp kicks down the walls with her high-heeled boots to storm the stage. The 25-year-old kept it very queer, striking various sensual positions and splits with her all-female dancers. Everyone in her band was wearing white t-shirts that read, "I WOULD DIE FOR RENEÉ RAPP."
"I'm a real bad girl but a real good kisser," Rapp sang on stage. "Leave me alone, bitch, I wanna have fun."
Rapp's excitement was captured on video backstage following that performance. In fact, fans can even see the sweet moment and kiss she had with her partner, guitarist Towa Bird.
"Leave Me Alone" is the first single off of Rapp's upcoming sophomore album, Bite Me, currently slated for an August 1 release date.
This wasn't the only queer moment of the AMAs. Global superstar Lopez also opened the show by dancing to a six-minute medley of recent hits — and, during Teddy Swims's "Lose Control," Lopez made out with one of her female dancers, as well as a male dancer.
LGBTQ+ talent swept many of the fan-voted awards as well. Billie Eilish snagged all seven awards she was nominated for, including Album of the Year and Artist of the Year. Megan Thee Stallion won Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist, and Doechii won the Social Song of the Year award for her hit track "Anxiety."
Janet Jackson also accepted the Icon Award and performed a medley of her hits on stage.
