Actor, singer, and Out100 honoree Reneé Rapp is making her return to music after teasing a new era on social media. The 25-year-old star revealed today that her sophomore album, Bite Me, is coming out on August 1. Along with the news, Rapp also dropped a new single, "Leave Me Alone," and its music video. Well, let's just say that the song lyrics are making headlines.

Fans who listened to the track closely may have noticed a few lines that could be interpreted as shade toward the HBO Max series The Sex Lives of College Girls, which she starred in and had a newsworthy exit in 2023.
"Leave Me Alone" has Rapp singing lines like, "Signed a hundred NDAs but I still say something / Leave me alone, bitch, I wanna have fun / Took my sex life with me, now the show ain't fuckin' / Leave me alone, bitch, I wanna have fun."
It's unclear if this line is in direct reference to The Sex Lives of College Girls, but all signs are pointing to yes. Rapp has spoken highly of the cast (and even wrote a song about one of them) in the past, and also praised showrunner Mindy Kaling. While her sudden departure was surprising, Rapp reiterated that she was simply shifting focus to her music career.
Either way, the fans are having a field day with these potentially very shady lyrics!
Rapp told Variety that in 2022 that, no matter what, her acting career always came second to music. "[I thought], I can do music on the side, like, I can just hustle," she said back then. "And now I've just kept acting, because it keeps supporting the music… Acting was my way into tricking everyone that I warranted attention, so that I could have this interview with you."
The Sex Lives of College Girls ultimately aired its third and final season in November 2024 — putting an end to the short-lived HBO Max series. Around that time, Rapp was keeping up with a busy schedule that included her first-ever headlining tour (in support of her debut album, Snow Angel), a starring role in the 2024 movie musical adaptation of Mean Girls (in which she played Regina George), and several performances around the world.
If there were major issues between Rapp and the HBO Max show, fans are certainly getting a glimpse of that situation right now. Internet sleuths are already trying to piece together this puzzle and discover if anything can be uncovered.
Reneé Rapp's sophomore studio album, Bite Me, is now available for pre-saves on all music streaming services and pre-orders of physical copies.
