Comedian and Too Much star Megan Stalter has officially hard-launched her music career, blessing us with a Pride Month anthem aptly-named “GAY” — to which we say, so true.

The electronic dance pop track really pulls on the vocal fry and bimbo lilt reminiscent of aughties pop, and we’re living for it. It’s safe to say that Stalter has officially added herself to the growing list of sapphic pop stars the world needs to hear.

“I love gay,” she coos over a heavy beat that really feels like something Paris Hilton would be sliving for. “Lipstick lesbian, Taylor Swift Red (Showgirl) / Mean as a hornet, but she gives good he- (Uh) / Two short nails and no real cares / She's gay, and she's cool, and she's awesome.”

Over the last several years, Stalter has quickly made a name for herself in comedy and TV, starring in movies like Cora, Bora as well as television shows like the reboot of Queer as Folk, Hacks, and, most recently, Lena Dunham’s Too Much. She’s become an internet staple, joking her way into America’s hearts and minds, from her stand up to her red carpet appearances in which she and Hacks co-star Paul W. Downs frequently recreate celebrity couple looks.

That’s why when she told the world in May that she would be launching her pop star era — which she announced at a surprise listening party at her own lookalike contest in Bushwick — it was hard to tell just how serious she was. A true comedian by nature, the tracks Stalter has released thus far, “Prettiest Girl in America” and “GAY,” are filled with one-liners that feel like they're ripped straight from her sets, including lyrics like: “Do you know how hard it is to go to a restaurant / And to know that you can buy the whole restaurant?”

Dropped June 1, “GAY” is the second single she’s shared in anticipation of her debut album Crave, which is set to be released later this summer, and it’s no less funny than “Prettiest Girl.” Perhaps referencing the irreverent pop tracks with bimbo-core campy lyrics that so often dominate gay circuit parties, Stalter leans into the lyrical playfulness embodied by so many club classics.

“Play this song in the gay club (Trixie, Katya) / Play this song with your boyfriend (Me?) / Play it on a lesbian road trip (I love this song) / Make sure this song never ends (I'm serious),” she sings.

Reader, I would argue that even if the lyrics of “GAY” are truly unserious, does all good music have to be so serious? Dance pop with silly, goofy lyrics has always been a staple in queer clubs and gay nightlife spaces.

"If Crave has a thesis, it's this: pop music should feel as good as it is a little unhinged," a press release about the forthcoming album reads.

I know “GAY” will certainly be my Pride month anthem. Maybe it should be yours, too? Anyways, bye, gay.
